A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

Give every open invoice an owner and a next action.

A useful receivables routine connects the accounting record to the conversation around it. Begin with current balances, then work through the items that need a decision: an unanswered reminder, a payment date that has arrived, or a question waiting for the client. The goal is a shared routine your team can pick up without searching through separate inboxes.

  1. Refresh the records before the review. Check recent payments and credits, and keep each client company and currency distinct.
  2. Separate normal reminders from exceptions. A disputed amount, bounced email, or promised payment needs a different next step from an invoice with no response.
  3. Finish with a short client update: what remains open, what changed, what your team did, and which decisions need the client's input.
